Chairman's Message
This website, launched at a transitional time dreaming of a new Sri Lanka, will serve as a valuable platform to provide the public with a clear vision of the activities conducted by the Balangoda Pradeshiya Sabha, the successes achieved, the challenges faced, and the efforts planned for the future.
Over the past several decades, the land we live on in Sri Lanka has faced numerous issues such as inequality, injustice, and environmental destruction. To address these, a society dedicated to seeking new directions and solutions has been built. The foundation of these developments is a commitment to justice, equality, and freedom within our society.
Under this new vision, local governance’s direct contribution to national development is highly important as well as challenging. Our Pradeshiya Sabha is an award-winning institution that has made a difference in society as the closest administrative body to the people. Despite difficulties, our Sabha has provided various services to improve the quality of life of the public.
These services include road maintenance, public health management, waste management, support for small and medium enterprises, issuance of business permits, registration of shops, and implementation of monitoring programs to ensure a safe commercial environment. We have also strived to achieve notable progress in the fields of education, culture, sports, and youth development. Renovation of libraries, sports facilities, and community centers, as well as organizing workshops and training programs for youth to provide new opportunities, have been carried out. Significant contributions have also been made to environmental conservation.
We aim to develop Balangoda and its surrounding environmental systems as a tourist destination in a suitable manner for visitors. Regarding politics, Karl Marx’s thought confirms this:
“The individual can only realize himself and secure his freedom in a virtuous society. That is, not acting solely for one’s own welfare, not solely for the welfare of one’s group, but acting for the welfare of the entire human race.”
Governance is not the exercise of power but the fulfillment of responsibilities for the needs of the people. The dream of a peaceful and prosperous society should not be abandoned. For such a society, your cooperation and trust are essential.
